Standardised Student Induction Protocol

Guidance for student placement providers and education providers on their roles and responsibilities for inducting students to placement.

The Standardised Student Induction Protocol (SSIP) was updated in 2021 to reflect key changes in screening, vaccination and fit-testing requirements that impact on students undertaking placements.

The Standardised Student Induction Protocol aims to:

  • Ensure patient safety and confidentiality through rigorous and consistent pre-Placement screening and orientation processes
  • Enhance administrative efficiency by reducing duplication across the Victorian health and higher education sectors
  • Protect the privacy of students' personal and health information and prevent unlawful discrimination.

Whilst the SSIP is not mandatory, the department strongly encourages health services providing clinical health student placements to utilise the protocol.
